Day 2 – August 31, 2016
The Blue Lagoon
We headed to the blue lagoon for some R&R – this is a must-see tourist attraction. You need to book a reservation at the lagoon in advance. Pack a bathing suit and flip-flops!
You receive a wrist band and then head into the locker room, where you wristband acts as your locker key. You need to shower before you head in the lagoon! So be prepared to see a lot of naked men / women. The lagoon is this gigantic, murky, steamy, blue pool with varying temperatures. Our reservation came with one free beverage and a Silica mask. We headed to the beverage hut and then waded over to the mask station (all located within the lagoon waters). The mask felt great! I even convinced Doug to put his on as well. After about 45 minutes, we were steamed out. We headed along the coast back to our hotel in search of food.
Just driving offers fantastic views. You can pull over almost anywhere, so we stopped when I spotted a pretty black sand beach through some tall grass.
Doug couldn’t resist but vandalize my sand-art.
We were able to make it back to Hella at a decent hour, and went across the street to Restaurant Kanslarinn for dinner. Doug ordered a horse steak, which I snagged a piece of. It was the BEST steak I have ever had. Hands down. Absolutely delicious.
